The American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) is a US nonprofit organization whose mission is to support and promote healthy aging through biomedical research. It funds two types of grants:

  • Small Research Grant Program for the Next Generation of Researchers in Alzheimer's Disease,
  • Glenn Foundation for Medical Research and AFAR Grants for Junior Faculty.

 

 

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) funds grants of varying amounts to female researchers with the aim of strengthening their publication capacity and increasing gender equality in the fields of engineering and science in general.

The Foundation funds grants annually for research on: nutrition;  education programs for mothers during pregnancy and after the birth of their children so that they can pass on good eating habits at an early age; training for educators which enables them to disseminate good nutritional practices. Moreover, it gives support to dissemination activities of information regarding healthy eating practices and habits. In limited situations it provides for grants aiming to help solve immediate problems of hunger and malnutrition.

The Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) supports scientists working on new treatments for Alzheimer's disease. It funds research programs, organizes conferences, and provides expertise to accelerate drug discovery and development.

Three types of grants are open to European researchers:

  • ADDF/NIH Funding Initiative
  • Accelerating Drug Discovery for Frontotemporal Dementias
  • Program to Accelerate Clinical Trials (PACT)

The American Academy of Neurology annually funds the Potamkin Prize for Research in Pick's, Alzheimer's, and Related Diseases. The prize is awarded in recognition of important contributions to the understanding of the causes, prevention, and treatment of Pick's and Alzheimer's and related diseases.

The AACR funds research on cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Through its activities it accelerates the dissemination of new research results among scientists and others who are dedicated to the fight against cancer, and it promotes science education and training. It funds grants (including travel grants) with varying amounts and frequency.

The APS annually grant awards to young and experienced researchers as part of the society's mission to highlight excellence in physiology research and education. European researchers can participate in the calls:

  • Beverly Petterson Bishop Award for Excellence in Neuroscience
  • Dean Franklin Young Investigator Award

The Foundation's main goal is to support cutting-edge arthritis research. It funds annual grants to experienced researchers with maximum contributions of $100,000.

The program Bibliographical Society of America Fellowship funds short-term grants to support bibliographic survey as well as research on publication history and publishing history. Projects with different themes are funded by researchers with different degrees of experience

The foundation is active in medical research, in the fight for AIDS and malaria, in the improvement of living conditions in the third world, and in education. It funds grants (grand challenges) of varying amounts and duration to young and experienced researchers

The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation is committed to alleviating the suffering caused by mental illness by awarding grants for activities in this field.The foundation offers 3 types of grants for researchers at all stages of their careers:

  • NARSAD Young Investigator Grant
  • NARSAD Independent Investigator Grant
  • ARSAD Distinguished Investigator Grant

The foundation funds two types of grants for innovative research on Alzheimer's, glaucoma and macular degeneration.
